NEW YORK CITY RAPID REPAIRS PROGRAM SHELTER IN PLACE - SUPER STORM SANDY
The City of New York elected to provide immediate relief to residents suffering in the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy. The Rapid Repairs Program, a Shelter in Place Project, was initially funded by the City of New York and later reimbursed by FEMA. The program was in its infancy and not performing to the expectations of government officials when JWTC was contacted to assist and bring its capability and experience in disaster program services. Hurricane Sandy devastated many communities and immediate action was required.
JWTC and teaming partners completed over 2,000 projects in less than 90 days, in all 5 boroughs of New York, surpassing many large local contractors. Scattered site experience, along with knowledge of the program expectations allowed JWTC to excel in the dismal conditions. Overall, the program completed over 11,000 projects.
The majority of these projects required special considerations and homeowner assistance and JWTC has first-hand experience in coordinating construction requests with displaced residents. Urgent needs and unmet needs of applicants are identified before and during the process, and by knowing the guidelines we were able to address the situation immediately without delay.
The project scope included assessment of the project, documentation, implementation of the data management system, conducting daily site visits, subcontractor and vendor scheduling, coordination of inspections with building and program code officials, management of homeowner expectations, program invoicing, program tracking, and project close-out.
